CCC CHAMPIONS
Congratulations to AC Tempo for winning the CCC tournament. Being a new team to the club, AC Tempo, coached by Kim Francis, the ODU women assistant coach, dominated and won their league and were excited to enter the CCC for challenging games. The first day of tournament play was reminiscent of their league wins, beating Virginia Rush Classic White 7-1 and CUSC Xplosion 8-0. Sunday proved to be a much tougher time for AC Tempo. In the semi-finals, they faced tournament host, CUSC Lightning. The game was tied 2-2 at the end of play and proceeded to go on to overtime. The ladies dug in deep and came out with a goal to win 3-2. This sent AC Tempo to the finals to face ODSC. Again it was tied at 2-2 and had to go to overtime. Having already faced overtime once that day, they were up to the challenge and scored twice to win the championship 4-2.
OLD DOMINION CUP FINALIST
Coming in from their CCC championship win, AC Tempo proved once again that they are a force to be reckoned with. The girls started their tournament against VA Rush Blue with some impressive play from Virginia Sanford scoring off of her corner kick, and Alex Connell scoring from defense to win 6-5. Later on that day they had to face CUSC and again were able to come away with a win by a goal scored in the 56th minute from Darby Moore. This set them up for their win against VA Rush White 6-2, with goals coming from Cristina Bashara, Jennifer Wilson, Darby Moore, Sarah Mariano, Kayla Airiagi and Virginia Sanford. With three wins behind them AC Tempo entered the championship game against the Greenville Stars of North Carolina. The final game was tied at the half due to hard play from every lady on the AC Tempo squad. The Greenville Stars were finally able to finish against Tempo's outstanding defense and excellent play by goalie Catie Wiedmair. The final score was 2-0 in favor of Greenville but AC Tempo will be ready for them next time.

VA Tech is next!
In a high-paced, physical game that took over 106 minutes of play, the ODU Monarch soccer team prevailed over the six-seeded Bears of Brown University (15-2-1). Sophomore Ambane Emmanuel (Yaounde, Cameroon) scored his second goal of the tournament for the game-winner with 3:17 remaining in double overtime. It was just the second loss of the season for the Bears, who were ranked fourth in the nation coming into the NCAA Tournament. The Monarchs (14-6-3), who are one of just nine teams to reach the NCAA second round in each of the last six seasons, advance to the Round of 16 with the win for the second consecutive season.
"It was a very difficult game; it was a real battle," said head coach Alan Dawson. "The Monarchs kept their compusure and in difficult circumstances found a way to win."
ODU jumped in front quickly, with a score from senior points leader A.J. Kulp scoring just over 11 minutes into the game. Kulp took a free kick from about 45 yards out and played a ball into the box that never got any higher than the defenders shoulders. The height of the ball led to the Brown keeper getting screened and the ball bounced into the right corner of the goal untouched.
The first half was fairly even from that point on, with Brown taking the advantage in shots. Their best opportunity came from about 30 yards as reserve T.J. Thompson shot a rocket just out of the reach of ODU keeper Evan Newton (Virginia Beach, Va.), but the shot was over the crossbar.
Coming out of the locker room, the Bears got organized quickly. Just over three minutes into the half, the Bears scored the equalizer. Kevin Davies shot a hard shot from inside the box that Newton made an fantastic diving save to his left. The Bears would get a corner kick off the save, setting up the goal. Davies would again collect the loose ball and this time lofted the ball over Newton's outstretched arm to the far post to tie the game.
The two teams played hard through the rest of regulation, forcing both keepers to make three saves in the period, but no one was able to capitalize for a goal. Despite the aggressive attack from the Bears, the trademark of the 2007 Monarchs held as they got another strong effort from the back line. Freshman Adam Roscioli, junior Ollie Lutton and seniors Yomby William and CAA Defender of the Year David Horst consistently denied the Bear defense a clean look at the goal.
In the first overtime, Brown pushed offensively again, taking three shots, two on-goal. Newton continued to shine, with a season-high in saves with eight.
The second overtime felt much the same, as both teams battled through five foul calls and two stellar shots from both sides. Dylan Sheehan for the Bears had a diving header toward the net two and half minutes into the period, but it sailed high and A.J. Kulp had a shot on goal denied by Browns keeper Paul Grandstrand.
With just over three minutes remaining though, the aggressive style Brown was playing backfired. Nane Joseph (Yaounde, Cameroon) corraled a loose ball at midfield and then crushed a pass from midfield over the Bear defense. Ambane Emmanuel used his tremendous speed and ran through the ball, leaving him alone with the keeper. He took one dribble and fired it past the diving netminder for the game winner.
"This was a great victory for the program," said Dawson.
ODU advances to the Round of 16 for the second time in program history, with the first coming a year ago. In 2006, ODU hosted eventual national champions University of California Santa Barbara in the tournament, falling 1-2. ODU will play at Virginia Tech this weekend, either Saturday or Sunday.

Tonight in our third game of the tournament we beat North Meck 93 Red from NC 2-0. It was the toughest game for us all weekend and we defended for over 90% of the match. With about 10 minutes to go we caught them on a counter attack and went ahead 1-0, then we scored again in stoppage time to seal the game. We ended up tied in our devision for first place but didn't go through because of goal differential.

We Just got done playing our second game of the weekend and we came away with a 3-2 win over Alberston Roma Acadamy from NY. The boys played very well again and with a win tonight there is a great chance that we will make it to the semi finals.

First update, stay tuned.
Here is a little Update:
We played our first Match yesterday night against BlackWatch Dundee from FLA and came away with a 2-2 tie. We had the lead with about 8 minutes to go and just couldnt hang on. The boys played the best game I have seen them play and I am very proud of there effort. The goals came from: Brandon Sweeny & Ryan Gillooly both assisted by David Noel. Our Keeper Jason Kaplin Had some great Saves in the Second half to keep us in the game. We play today at 2pm against Roma Acadamy (NYE) and then 8pm agasint North Meck 93 (NC). Its been a great trip so far!

Bring on the Friars!
NORFOLK, Va. -- CAA Champion Old Dominion will host an NCAA Men's Soccer Championship game for the sixth straight season this Saturday night as it entertains the Providence Friars at 7:00 pm. The Friars received an at-large bid into the tournament after going 9-7-2 overall and 5-4-2 in Big East action this season. The Monarchs earned the CAA's automatic berth into the tournament by winning its first CAA title since 1991, after going 12-6-3 on the season.
"We're very excited to be playing at home," said head coach Alan Dawson. "At this point in the season, every team is a talented team and we look forward to playing Providence here on Saturday."
At the CAA Tournament, ODU advanced in the semi's with a 2-1 win over VCU with goals from Stig Haddal and A.J. Kulp. They then battled to a scoreless tie with Towson in the championship game and advanced with a 4-2 shootout victory. It will be the Monarchs sixth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.
The Friars earned an at-large bid as they make an appearance in their third straight NCAA Tournament. They were bounced in the first round last season by CAA champion Hofstra.
Kick-off is set for 7:00 pm on Saturday, November 24. Admission for the first round matchup is $7 for adults and $5 for children. A limited number of ODU students will be admitted free with a valid student I.D. The winner of the game will face the #6 seeded Brown University Bears in Rhode Island
